December 2016 upDATER - Nuts and Bolts

December 1, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope this edition of the upDATER finds you well.  The purpose of this Nuts and Bolts is to provide information about this month's Holiday Sing, a fundraiser being held at Ramsey High School, and an learning opportunity occurring next week at Dater.
It is hard to believe that we are already beginning the final month of the calendar year and will soon be finishing the first trimester of the academic year.  As always, I appreciate all of your support in helping make Dater a great place for students to learn and grow.

Warm Regards,
Andrew Matteo
Holiday Sing: December 23
On Friday, December 23rd, we will hold the annual Dater School Holiday Sing. This year, like last year, there will be TWO shows - a Fourth Grade and a Fifth Grade show.

The  Fifth Grade show will begin at 9:00 AM in the Dater School gymnasium. This show is only for the families of Fifth Grade students.  Please enter through the gym lobby doors (not the main school entrance). These doors will open at 8:30 AM sharp. Dater paraprofessionals and office staff will be overseeing check-in with three places to check in based on the student's last name (A-J; K-R; S-Z).

Following this show we will clear the gymnasium to get ready for the Fourth Grade show.  All visitors will be asked to leave the gym unless they have both a fourth and fifth grade student at Dater.

The  Fourth Grade show will begin at 10:30 AM in the Dater School gymnasium. This show is only for the families of Fourth Grade students.  Please enter through the gym lobby doors (not the main school entrance). These doors will open at 10:15 AM sharp. Dater paraprofessionals and office staff will be overseeing check-in with three places to check in based on the student's last name (A-J; K-R; S-Z).

I appreciate your cooperation in helping this event run smoothly so that everyone can enjoy this wonderful holiday tradition.   Please come ready to join in the singing as there are multiple opportunities for parents and families to "sing-a-long!"
RHS German Club Fundraiser: December 6

Next week the RHS German Club is hosting a Movie Night fundraiser in the high school cafeteria.  All details can be found on this flyer.
Celebrate Computer Education Week: December 5-9

During lessons in the Information Technology Center, students will explore vocabulary, tutorials and hands on practice in coding. Launched in 2013, Code.org® is a non-profit dedicated to expanding access to computer science to all students. Code.org has developed an elementary school curriculum that allows students of all ages to explore the limitless world of computing. This year fourth and fifth grade students will be enrolled in a 20 hour coding course. The course is optional and takes the students step by step in the coding process. The course will be introduced to all students during IT and at that time students will be given login information. Explore code.org with your family - have fun!
