I am pleased to offer the first in our Planning for Adult Life series presented by ARC.
These are free, hands-on presentations that last about 45 minutes.
Students are encouraged to attend this upcoming presentation along with parents!
When: Wednesday, September 14, 2016
Where: David E. Owens Middle School media center, New Milford
Time: 7:00 PM
The transition planning process is evaluating the student's skills, abilities, strengths, challenges, and preferences to envision their life after leaving school.
Planning involves setting goals for the student to strive toward and identifying the needs for support. Carrying out the transition plan can begin and should
be part of the student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Students and families must be actively involved in the transition planning process as early as
possible and keep it moving forward. This presentation discusses the importance of planning, the steps necessary to plan, and provides hands-on tools
to put a plan in place.
If you are interested in attending, please reserve your spot by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We will limit the group to 20 families.
Future presentations include:
October 13 Getting the Most Out of Your High School Experience
October 18 Guardianship
November 3 SSI and Medicaid: How to Apply and Why You Need to Do So
March 6 Accessing Services and "Natural Supports"
April 4 Yes, Your Child Can Work! Working Towards Employment for People with IDD
